Mrs. Peggy Harden Obituary

The Life & Legacy of Mrs. Peggy A. Harden

To Earth

Peggy A. Harden—the believer, the wife, the mother, the servant—was born on Saturday, April 10, 1954 in Statesboro, Georgia. Peggy was a cherished daughter of Emmitt and Ceola Oglesby. She thrived as a young woman and loved the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a notably pleasant spirit and sang in the choir of her Claxton, Georgia church, Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Peggy graduated from Claxton High School in 1972. Peggy would go on to break barriers and become a trailblazer by earning her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting from Savannah State University {College}, continuing her education at Georgia Southern University, earning a Master of Arts degree in Education, and beginning doctoral studies at Cambridge College in Boston, Massachusetts. She truly valued education and created a legacy of scholastic achievement.

Peggy was blessed to marry her high school sweetheart, Jerry Harden, on Saturday, June 25, 1977. To this union of nearly forty-three years, God gave Jawaun and Jerry, Jr. Peggy was a champion for family and raised her children to serve God, love sincerely, and live righteously.

With her accounting expertise, Peggy began her career at Rexnord as an accounting supervisor. She moved after several years to Chatham Steel as accounting supervisor. Peggy’s twenty-two-year teaching career started at May Howard Elementary School as a fifth grade teacher. She led her students in signature pedagogical approaches that created a zeal for learning and engaging with others.

Jerry and Peggy joined St. John Baptist Church, “The Mighty Fortress”, in 1980 under Pastor Matthew Southall Brown, Sr. Peggy sang in the Sanctuary Choir and served faithfully as a member of the Deaconess Ministries. She was a church staple and consistently supported St. John’s events and activities. After many dedicated years of service at St. John, Jerry and Peggy moved their membership to First Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor-Teacher, the Rev. André J. Osborne. She attended weekly services as often as her health allowed.

Peggy’s parents, Emmitt and Ceola Oglesby; her sister, Barbara Washington; and brother-in-law, Willie Washington preceded her in death.

To Eternity

At age sixty-six, Peggy A. Harden received her crown on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.

The Legacy

Left to cherish her loving memories: a devoted husband, Jerry Harden, Sr.; two children, Jawaun Harden and Jerry Harden, Jr.; and, siblings, Charles (Unja) Oglesby and Adolphus (Wanda) Oglesby, of Claxton, Georgia as well as Edward (Yvonne) Oglesby and Lavon (Margaret) Oglesby of Savannah, Georgia. Peggy also created irreplaceable connections and impressions with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.
