Mrs. Marion Simmons Obituary

"So we are always confident, because we know that while we are living in the body, we are away from our home with the Lord. We live by faith and not by sight. We are confident, and we would prefer to leave the body and to be at home with the Lord."

                                                                                                                      2 Corinthians 5:6-8

Mrs. Marion Virginia Moody Simmons was born on July 27, 1923 to Paskell & Carrie Stacey Moody in Savannah, Georgia. From a young age, Marion valued her education, attending Beach Cuyler School,  Alfred E. Beach High School and Savannah State College (University) all of Savannah, Georgia. After college, Marion met Robert Simmons, to whom she married after he returned from serving in World War ll. To this union, two sons were born, Robert Simmons Jr. and Paskell Simmons.

Marion was a faithful servant of God through her diverse work in the church, highlighted by her 93-year membership at Central Missionary Baptist Church. She was instrumental in many pastor appreciation programs, a member of the choir, vacation bible school teacher and the Baptist Training Union (BTU).

She loved spending time with her family and friends, hosting holiday gathering, spending countless hours in the mall and sewing items for the less fortunate, Marion loved the open seas and became an avid cruiser after raising her sons traveling frequently to the Bahamas.

Marion loved her community and the children of Frank W. Spencer Elementary school; she could be seen throughout the week on her porch watching the children on their walk home to ensure they arrived at their destination safely. She was a housewife for most of her adult life, but couldn't deny the urge of wanting to give back to the youth. Following her passion, Marion became a head start instructor in the early 90's and served in this capacity for five years.

With all of her accomplishments, nothing mattered to Marion more than her family. After her brief stint in education, Marion returned to what she loved, caring for and spending time with her family. Some of her proudest moments were witnessing her sons and grandchildren furthering their education, starting their own families and landing their dream jobs.

The beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend transitioned to the next life on Friday June 4, 2021 and was preceded in death by her parents, Paskell & Carrie Moody; husband, Robert Simmons, Sr. and her sister, Adel Smiley (Emory); in-laws, Paul (Mary Ruth) Simmons, Joe Louis Simmons, Benjamin (Leola) Powell, Benjamin (Vergie) Abner and Bernice (Robert) Middleton.

Simmons; great-grandchildren Brandon Williams, Anaysia Williams, Brandon M. Baker, Bryce D. Baker, Britney A. Baker and great grandchild Nia D.
