Richard Franklin Harris was born to Herbert Sr. and Cora Bacon Harris on March 11, 1946.
Richard graduated from George Washington Carver High School in Richmond Hill, Georgia in 1965.
In 1966, Richard moved to Washington, DC with his brother and sister and gained employment with The National Children's Hospital. After years of service there, he gained better employment at The Washington Hospital Center, where he met Wilhemina Davis. They married and from this union a daughter, Valencia was born. In 1974, he obtained employment at The Washington Metropolitian Area Transit Authiroty, from which he retired in 2003. In 1991, he met his wife Lizzie Dolberry and gained three step-children.
After moving to North Carolina, Richard joined Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. In January, 2010, he was ordained as a Deacon and served well until his health started failing
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Herbert Sr. and Cora Harris; siblings, Peter Harris, Charles Edward Harris, Herbert Harris, Jr. and Ruth Coleman; and a grandchild, Unique Harris.
Richard leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Lizzie; his daughter Valencia Harris; two grandchildren, Varndell Jordan and Ashley Jordan; four great-grandchildren, his namesake Lil'Richard , U'Andre', Zy'Asia and Zy'Kei; his three step-children, James Clark (Michelle), Virgil Clark (Yolanda), Kiara and Tawanda Rountree; six step-grandchildren, Porsha, James, Jacqueline, Brittney, and Dominique; three step-great grandchildren, Malik, Jaylyn, and Gerald; and a host of other relatives relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday June 9, 2021 at Fairmount Baptist Church, 721 Bolton Street, Savannah, GA 31401. Body will Lay in state 11:00am.
