"Harriett's Life Journey"

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Mrs. Harriett Miller Thompson, affectionately known as "Hal" was born on June 24, 1936 to the late Harry & Mary Miller. She was the middle child of three daughters. She attended and graduated from Oakwood Academy High School in Huntsville, Alabama in 1953. After high school, she married Robert J. Robinson, Sr. in Hackensack, New Jersey. To this union, they were blessed with a son, Robert J. Robinson, Jr. She later moved back to Savannah, Georgia and attended Savannah State College, now University and graduated in 1966. Having a great love for children, she was an avid teacher at Guyton Elementary School for thirty years. She also taught in Savannah-Chatham County Public System at Hodge Elementary School.

In the early 1980's, Harriett met the love of her life, George "Tiny" Thompson. They were married on August 22, 1983. They shared a love for Christ through singing and praising God. She sang with Bynes-Royall Funeral Home choir. They later joined Friendship Baptist Church. She was a faithful member until she could no longer serve as an active member of her church. Her spiritual duties included: former President of the Deaconess Ministry, Friendship Mass Choir, Sunday School, Bible Study, and the Sisterhood Ministry. Being enthused by her son's love for motorcycles, she became an associate member of the Savannah Georgia Chapter of the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club, having served since 2005. Harriett took great pleasure with puzzles, playing bingo, writing and collecting poems. She enjoyed going to the Senior Center at Savannah Adult Daycare. She worked tirelessly with the City of Savannah Leisure Lunch Program.

On Monday, February 3, 2020, Harriett heard the voice of Jesus say, "Come unto me and rest" and she quietly entered into eternal life. Harriett loved her family, friends, neighbors, and her Friendship Baptist Church family. She enjoyed a full life until her illness prevented her from being engaged in various activities and functions. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her husband, Dea. George "Tiny" Thompson; four sons: Robert (JoAnne) Robinson, Savannah, GA, Min. Jerry (Felicia) Thompson, Savannah, GA, Dea. Timothy (Gia) Thompson, Savannah, GA, Gregory Thompson, Atlanta, GA; two daughters: Melrose (Tammy) Thompson, LaTanya (Keith) Moore, Savannah, GA; two sisters: Rhina Miller, Gwendolyn (Jonathan) Murray, Savannah, GA; niece: Jenee Murray, Savannah, GA; nephew: William (Irene) Anderson, Kennesaw, GA; nineteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; God-daughters, Charisse Bruin, Andrianne Young, Savannah, GA; one great niece, two great nephews, and a host of other loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
