Mrs. Greer Reese Obituary

Greer Roslyn Brown Reese was born on September 15, 1952 in Savannah, GA to the late Benjamin and Eloise Hamilton Brown. She was the third of eight children.

At an early age Greer was baptized at Asbury Methodist Church.

Greer was educated in the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools attending Florence Street Elementary, Cuyler Middle School and graduating in 1970 from Richard Arnold High School where she was voted most athletic by her senior class. In the fall of 1970, she gave birth to her first child just days before her eighteenth birthday. Greer then went on to attend Savannah State College (Savannah State University) and graduated in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.

Greer was married in holy matrimony to Charles Reese on March 15th, 1975. To this union one child was born and Greer’s eldest daughter was adopted by Charles.

Greer worked as a Physical Education teacher in Savannah from 1976 to 2005 when she retired. She was known by her students and colleagues as “Coach Reese.” She started her career at Scott Middle School while coaching girls basketball at Tompkins High School, and ended her career at DeRenne Middle School as Athletic Director. She so loved her Dolphin Family and teaching at DeRenne, that she returned as a substitute teacher and the Parent Center Coordinator for another decade of service.

In retirement, Greer has enjoyed traveling the world with friends and being a part of the Chatham Retired Educators Association where she has performed the duties of photographer. She was also a member of an education group named Phi Delta Kaplan on the hospitality and publicity committee.

As she had a great love for sports, she played volleyball, basketball, belonged to a bowling league, and was catcher of the Sea Breeze Softball team in Thunderbolt, GA from 1976 to 1982.

Greer’s health began to decline in the fall of 2017 and she recently had an emergency surgery in January 2018 at Candler Hospital. She remained in her high spirits enjoying her visitors with jokes and lots of laughter. On the morning of February 13, 2018, Greer was called from labor to reward at Memorial Medical center.
