Mrs. Mildred Sarah Hicks, a native of Savannah and lifelong resident, was born on October 24, 1922, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Emma and Alfonso Irving. She was united in marriage to the late Mr. Burnis Hicks for 54 years. She transitioned to her eternal resting place on November 12, 2017.Mrs. Hicks was educated in the Chatham County Public School System. She studied business education at the Harris Trade School (Beach Institute) and also attended the nursing school for the American Red Cross, which sparked her passion for volunteerism.Throughout her life, Mrs. Hicks was dedicated to community service. She was a volunteer in Savannah for over 40 years, beginning at Charity Hospital. From there, she continued her service at the American Red Cross. In her next role as a "Pink Lady" at the Memorial University Medical Center, she was honored as a WTOC Hometown Hero in 2014 for over 40 years of volunteer support. She also appeared in the volunteer services brochure for the hospital. In addition, Mrs. Hicks was an active member of the Zeta Amicae for 45 years. She held numerous positions and received several awards for her achievements on both the state and regional levels.Mrs. Hicks was a proud and active lifetime member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, where she gave 83 years of Christian service. As a member of the Deaconess Board, Senior Mission, Trustee Board, Senior and Combined Choirs, and the Hospitality and Floral Ministries, she was always on the move for Christ.

Mildred Hicks, affectionately known as “Sissy”, leaves to mourn her passing her four children, Mildred "Kitty" Phoenix, Burnis "Baby Lee" Hicks, Sherman Dee Hicks, Sr. (Mary), and Pamela Holsey; one sister-in-law, Gussie Ervin; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, located at 1008 May Street, Savannah, Ga 31415  Rev. Dr. Wilson Scott , Pastor /Eulogist  Public viewing will be held on Friday, November 17, 2017 from 10:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m. at  Bynes-Royall Funeral Home located at 204 West Hall Street Savannah, Ga 31401. Body will lie instate at 9:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church. 

Interment: Lincoln Memorial Cemetery on HAAF.
