Lula was born in Allendale, South Carolina on August 8, 1931, to late Henry and Carry Belle Peeples Allen.
She was converted at an early age and joined Beautiful Gate Baptist Church in Allendale. She was married to the late Deacon Neely Ruffin and this union was blessed with one daughter.
She was a seamstress by trade and retired as Head of the Alteration Department at Belk in the Olgethorpe Mall.
She was an ardent member of First New Light Baptist Church. Her Home going services will be held at St. Philip A.M.E. Church, 613 M.L.K. Blvd on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. The visitation will be held Friday evening, June 24th. from 6:00-7:30 PM at First New Light Baptist. Church - 601 Barnard St.
Those who will be most profoundly deprived of the warmth of her personality and the strength of her character include: her daughter, Carrie (Arthur O. Jr.) Howard, Savannah, her sisters Mary Lee Garvin, Savannah, Alma Allen, Allendale, Rosa McGraw, Ft. Wayne; Brother John Allen, Philadelphia; Grandsons, Benjamin Howard, Columbia, and Narada Howard, Lyndhurst; six sister-in-laws and one bother-in-law; Five God-children and a host of nieces, nephews, dear friends and the Carver Heights Community
